Ortega, a naturalized U.S. citizen originally from the Dominican Republic who has been in the country for a decade, had been working for the Krims for two years and was referred to them by another family, Kelly said.

Detectives on Friday continued to process the apartment and Ortega’s purse, Kelly said. Ortega, also of Manhattan, did not live with the family. Kelly said Ortega had no known history of mental illness, but said investigators were probing unconfirmed reports that she recently saw a psychiatrist.

Question #1: Should all U.S. nanny agencies be carefully monitored by DHS to make sure that the nannies agencies send out are legal aliens with clean mental and criminal records? Most nannies in the U.S. are illegal aliens; some are hired thru agencies. Others are hired on friend's referrals.

I researched it elsewhere and this seems to be an accepted fact.

The fact is, a lot of American families have illegal alien nannies and pay them under the table wages which is illegal. It is also illegal for those illegal alien nannies not to pay taxes on their earnings. This is probably a multi-billion-dollar underground business.

The best way to avoid the hiring of illegal alien nannies (which is already illegal under Federal law) is for families to hire American nannies.

Question #2: Why won't agencies hire only American nannies or carefully vet alien nannies?

Question #3: Why isn't the IRS going after nannies and their employers?
