Alabama Gov. Bentley Goes Back On Promise Not To Weaken HB 56 Law By Signing HB 658 On Saturday So It Won't Get Much Media Play (my version of title)

The above story by Alan Gomez at USA Today.

Gomez writes,

Governor Bentley, a Republican, had initially warned the Republican-controlled legislature that the new law – HB 658 – included provisions that worried him. He called legislators into a 10-day special session in part to address those problems.

But by Friday afternoon, Bentley said it was clear that legislators weren't interested in making those revisions.

"In an effort to remove the distraction of immigration from the other business of the special session, I decided to sign House Bill 658 and allow the progress made in the legislation move forward," Bentley said in a statement.

"There is substantial progress in this bill.  Burdens on legal residents and businesses are eased, and the goal remains the same – that if you live and work in Alabama, you must do so legally. ...

"The bottom line is there are too many positive aspects of House Bill 658 for it to go unsigned.  I don't want to lose the progress we have made," he  said.  "This bill reduces burdens on legal residents as they conduct government transactions.  The bill also reduces burdens on businesses while still holding them accountable to hire legal workers.  These changes make this a stronger bill."

So Governor Bentley, the supposed Conservative, finally caved to BigAg and the Chamber of Horrors and helped weaken HB 56! I've lost all respect for Gov. Bentley as well as HB 56 author House Majority Leader Micky Hammon and State Senator Scott Beason for pushing HB 658 thru instead of waiting for next month's SCOTUS decision on 1070 which is likely to be a positive one.

Alabama Republicans "caved" to the Chamber and BigAg on this and hopefully this will be something Alabama Conservative voters will remember come the next Alabama Election.

So, fellow Patriots, HB 56 is no longer "the toughest anti-illegal immigration law in the nation"--1070 is.

What does this mean to Alabama? It means businesses get a break. Bravo, you spineless Republicans!

I've been warning Conservatives to work hard at voting out the RINOs in their legislatures and Governors' mansions. It's hard work but it must be done.
