I had just posted the below May 6th piece on Poizner's surging to within 10%, but then saw this and other versions of this story from last night.

Rep. Tom McClintock's endorsement isn't the main reason for this surge. No endorsement from the guy who Schwarzenegger trampled in the Recall could be giving Poizner this incredible boost! It's the issue of the Invasion (aka illegal immigration), Arizona's 1070 Anti-Trespass Law that is sweeping the nation (12 states are planning similar bills or have them already) which Poizner has wisely embraced. It's also due to Whitman's ties to the Goldman Sachs debacle that have devastated her in spite of the money she's spent. If you've watched Poizer in the debates, he doesn't come off as a conservative. He's not! He's pro-Abortion and back during Bush, he supported Amnesty. But he's apparently had a change of mind, is now against Amnesty and wants illegal aliens out of CA! Had he not embraced 1070, I wouldn't have considered supporting him because that bill ends Sanctuary policies in Arizona...but he has embraced it. CA is dying. There is no money for illegals, hospitals are closing, 8 million-plus illegals hold above board jobs, many of them in CA, jobs that would go to Americans and legal aliens, anchor teens are near-rioting in the State's public schools. Citizens are not only angry, they are scared...and with good reason! If Latinos--illegal aliens and their reconquista friends here--riot across the State, would Governor Moonbeam put a stop to it or would he instead call for "a mass encounter group" led by Rodney "Can't We Just Get Along?" King? The point being, Brown did a terrible job as Mayor of Oakland. Crime flourished under his reign. As Governor of CA, he was not like his father who was tough on criminals. Brown's a left-wing looney. He had his chance as Governor and ended up spraying the state with malathion. What would he do about the 10 to 18 million illegals living in CA? I have to believe that Poizner is a man of his word will do something about it, even without the help of the Legislature.

What Poizner needs to do, in my opinion, is fly Arizona State Senator Russell Pearce or Constitutional expert Kris Kobach--or both of them--to Sacramento for a huge news conference where, with Rep. Tom McClintock by his side, make a forceful statement to the Democrats (who've controlled the CA Legislature for decades), something along these lines--"Should I be elected, I will demand that a 1070-style bill be on my desk by March of next year! Otherwise, I will use the power of my pen to end [by EO] Sanctuary policies in all CA cities!" or something to that effect. Would Sen. Pearce agree to be part of that? I don't know. I'll ask him. Would Kobach? I'm sure he would. He's helping other states now with their versions of 1070. Sanctuary policies are ILLEGAL! They are contrary to Fed. Immigration law. It's just that no Governor--until Governor Brewer in Arizona--has done anything about it, thanks of course to State Sen. Pearce and Kris Kobach who crafted the 1070 law.
